4-H County Programs

Trempealeau County offers a variety of 4-H programs for youth, and sometimes non-4-H youth, to participate in. These programs provide educational opportunities and new experiences outside of club meetings and the fair. Here are some of the activities available:

Trempealeau County 4-H Awards

  1. Achievement Award
    • Awarded to two experienced 4-H youth annually.
    • Based on overall involvement, leadership, and accomplishments.
    • Significant involvement at club and county levels is required.
    • District, state, and national experience is a plus.
  2. Friend of 4-H Award
    • Given to a business, organization, or individual who has significantly helped 4-H members or the program.
  3. Distinguished Service Award
    • For active registered 4-H leaders with at least five years of service.
    • Recognizes outstanding contributions and leadership.
  4. Volunteer of the Year Award
    • For active registered 4-H leaders with four years or fewer of service.
    • Recognizes outstanding contributions and leadership.
  5. James W. Crowley 4-H Dairy Leadership Award
    • Recognizes youth excelling in their dairy project.
    • Sponsored by the James W. Crowley Dairy Management and Extension Fund.
    • Includes a unique engraved medallion and eligibility for state-wide awards and scholarships.

How to Nominate

  • All 4-H members can nominate one individual, company, or organization per award.
  • Nominations must be submitted by June 1st.

The Festival of the Arts is a wonderful event for 4-H members to showcase their artistic and communicative talents. Here are some of the activities participants can engage in:

  • Group Music: Instrumental, vocal, dance, or novelty performances.
  • Solo and Duet Music: Vocal, instrumental, or dance performances.
  • Group Mini-Drama: Skits, puppetry, or creative dramatics with minimal props.
  • Group Play Reading: Performances without costumes or props, focusing on expressive reading.
  • Group Drama: One-act plays or original dramas.
  • Demonstrations and Illustrated Talks: Teaching or showing how to do something with visual aids.
  • Action Center: Interactive show-and-tell presentations.
  • Communication Arts: Memorized selections, prose-reading, poetry-reading, original speeches, storytelling, and play-reading.
  • Marketing: Promotional items for 4-H.
  • Photography: Display of photos in various categories.
  • Arts & Crafts: Creative projects made during the current 4-H year.

Trempealeau County Clover College

Clover College is an exciting and educational event designed for youth in Kindergarten through 12th grade, including non-4-H members. This program offers a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, engage in creative arts and crafts, and explore a variety of fun and educational workshops. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children to share in the experience.

Event Details:

  • Date: April 27th
  • Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Location: Blair Taylor Elementary School
  • Cost: $10 per youth (includes lunch and all sessions)

Activities and Workshops: Participants can choose from a range of workshops tailored to different age groups and interests. Some of the exciting sessions include:

  • Homemade Lip Balm: Learn to make and decorate your own lip balm.
  • Marble Roller Coasters: Build creative roller coasters using various materials.
  • Monster Stuffies: Design, create, and sew your own monster plush toy.
  • Yoga: Relax and unwind with a calming yoga session.
  • Seeds to Sow: Discover how to start seeds and grow plants.
  • Stomp Rockets: Build and launch your own stomp rocket.
  • Video Production: Learn the basics of video production and equipment use.
  • Electronics Extravaganza: Explore circuits and build projects that light up and make noise.
  • Parliamentary Procedure Workshop: Improve your skills in running meetings and passing motions.

  • How to Register: Complete the signup sheet and submit it with payment to the Trempealeau County Extension Office. Online registration is also available.

The Trempealeau County Foods Revue is an exciting pre-fair event that showcases the culinary talents of 4-H youth. This event provides an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their cooking skills, creativity, and knowledge of nutrition. It is held in conjunction with Clover College, making it a day full of learning and fun.

Event Details:

  • Location: Blair Taylor Elementary Commons
  • Registration Deadline: April 12th

Participation Guidelines: Participants are encouraged to prepare a dish and present it along with a creative table setting. Each entry will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Creative Table Setting & Properly Written Recipe & Menu Card (25%)
  • Nutritional Value (25%): How well the food and menu selection follow the Food Pyramid Guidelines.
  • Creativity & Eye Appeal of Food (25%)
  • Ease of Preparation (25%)

Categories: Participants can enter one item per category, and the categories include a variety of food types, such as appetizers, main dishes, desserts, and more. Each entry should be accompanied by a written recipe and a menu card.

Judging and Awards: Entries will be judged on the day of the event, and awards will be given based on the overall scores. This is a fantastic opportunity for youth to gain recognition for their culinary skills and creativity.
