
The first Dog Obedience Class this Spring will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 6:00 pm. in the Whitehall Memorial High School (Commons), Whitehall, WI. Enter through the main entrance in the front of the school. The first class is informational only and will include an orientation session, registration (class signup), a demonstration, agility class information, required equipment, and dog health. Do not bring dogs to the first class! CLASS SIZE COULD BE LIMITED – 4-H MEMBERS/YOUTH WILL HAVE PREFERENCE Enrollment will not be accepted after April 14th, 2025! ON REGISTRATION NIGHT – BRING A COPY OF YOUR DOG’S CURRENT RABIES VACCINATION RECORD TO TURN IN. You may purchase equipment before the first-night training sessions begin. The remaining training sessions will be held on Monday evenings at 6:00 pm at the Trempealeau County Fairgrounds in Galesville and in Whitehall at Larson Park (the park by the swimming pool). Galesville and Whitehall Classes are both on Monday evenings this year. Beginner classes will be held in Whitehall. Beginner and Advanced Dog Obedience Classes as well as Agility will be held in Galesville. Agility parental help with setup and takedown of equipment will be required. (You must have completed 1 year of obedience class to participate in agility.) Rally and Showmanship will also be offered in Galesville in May and June. The class fee for 4-H members will remain $25.00, and non-4-H members (the general public) will remain $60.00.

The equipment needed for the class will be a 6-ft. leather or cotton web lead and a correctly sized nylon or chain training collar. The cotton web leads can be purchased in class; training collars are also available in all sizes. Anyone participating in agility is required to have a buckle collar without any tags attached to the collar. Please bring a copy of your current vaccination records with you to the first class – we are required to keep a copy for our records. Dogs will not be allowed out of your vehicle the first night of class until a Rabies copy has been turned in to instructors! All dogs must have distemper, rabies, and parvovirus shots.
Shock collars (E collars) will NOT be allowed in any training classes!
Any 4-H member who still wants to enroll in the Dog Project should contact the UW Extension Office in Whitehall at (715) 538-2311 Ext. 208. Remember we have a Dog Obedience Open Class at the Fair so any adults interested can show their dog and participate at the Fair!
